About me

I'm a product designer who brings clarity to complex, messy product problems. Over 13+ years, I've designed products used by millions of people - from launching Shopify Email as a new product in Shopify's ecosystem, to building the tools that help merchants understand their marketing, to shaping the study experience for post-secondary students at Course Hero.

What I care about most is the space between research and execution - where you have a pile of signals, competing priorities, and no obvious answer. That's where I do my best work.

I'm based in Toronto. Outside of design, I'm drawn to entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and making things - which is probably why I've always been most energized working on products that help people build and grow something of their own. I genuinely enjoy the early, messy stages of a problem - when there's more questions than answers and the team is trying to figure out what's true. You can usually find me reading or spending time with my family and kids.

areas of strength

What I’ve accomplished

0–1 product design and discovery — for ambiguous opportunities where the team knows there's something there but can't agree on what.

→ Launched Shopify Email from scratch; it became one of the most widely adopted features in the Marketing Tab.

Research synthesis and problem framing — for turning a pile of signals into a direction the team can move on.

→ Contributed to research studies spanning months and dozens of participants, including a 17-person, 6-month merchant diary study that reshaped the Marketing Tab's entire strategy.

Data product design — for fragmented, multi-channel data that needs to feel clear and actionable, not just displayed.

→ Designed Shopify's marketing analytics platform from the ground up.

Complex multi-surface workflows — for high-intent experiences where trust, clarity, and confidence matter most.

→ Designed Campaigns and Automations for Shopify — where a single merchant goal touched ads, email, and post-purchase flows across multiple surfaces and had to feel like one coherent product.

AI-integrated product experiences — for products evolving fast enough that the design needs to flex with the capability.

→ Designed Study Tools at Course Hero with AI-assisted practice question generation and spaced review — building a product experience around capabilities that were still being defined.

Cross-functional alignment and facilitation — for moments when the team has competing priorities and no shared frame.

→ Led design sprints that shaped team roadmaps and OKRs at both Shopify and Course Hero.

Design systems and scalable patterns — for experiences that need to grow across users, surfaces, and time.

→ Operated as staff IC across a 6-year tenure at a high-growth, high-scale company.

How I Work

Design is the thinking, not just the output

I start with the problem, not the solution.

Before touching a design tool, I want to understand what's actually happening - for users, for the business, for the team. The best design decisions I've made came from spending more time on the problem than most people expected.

I connect research to decisions.

Research findings sit in decks until someone translates them into a direction. I treat that translation as part of my job - building mental models, frameworks, and product principles that teams use to align and move faster.

I design for user and business outcomes, not just aesthetics.

My work at Shopify tied directly to merchant success metrics. At Course Hero, every decision connected to WAU, LTV, and retention. I design with those outcomes visible, not as an afterthought.

I think in systems.

The harder question isn't the flow in front of me - it's how this connects to everything else. Six years at Shopify taught me to always ask: what does this look like for someone who's also doing three other things?

I partner closely with cross-functional teams.

My best work has come from being in the room with PM, engineering, research, data, and marketing - not just receiving a brief. I've shaped strategy, influenced prioritization, and pushed back when needed.

AI in My Practice

How I use AI in design work

My relationship with AI in design is honest: I'm still building it. Each new company, each new problem space adds more to my toolkit - and I've learned that the most valuable thing I can do is stay genuinely curious rather than performatively fluent.

Where I've found AI most useful is in the parts of the design process that typically lose momentum:

01

Research synthesis

Using AI to cluster and surface patterns across interview notes, surveys, and usability findings - shortening the path from raw data to shareable insight.

02

Early concepting

Generating rough visual directions or interaction patterns as starting material for critique, not finished work. Better conversations, faster.

03

Prototyping speed

Moving through more iterations in the same window so design reviews compare real options rather than waiting on one direction to get polished.

04

Communication design

Drafting copy, writing rationale docs, and structuring presentations more efficiently - spending less time on the scaffolding, more time on the argument.
